My name is Ruth Cuenca and this is the second year I teach Architectural Design modules to first year students. My presentation is a reflection on the structure of the course and my teaching practice.
Through this reflection I have identified gaps that students have when they change from high school to higher university and some of them find it difficult to adapt to the new methodologies, tasks and learning environment. The intended learning outcomes are aligned with teaching activities however creative disciplines teaching methodologies need a lot of initiative from the students and they need time and space to think and develop and transform the abstract thinking into actual projects. Studio teaching with tutorials, workshops and reviews (peer & crits) can bridge those gaps for students who struggle.
